Leon Gaucherel

Born in Paris, the painter and etcher Leon Gaucherel exhibited at the Salon de Paris from 1847-1879, winning medals on numerous occasions, and being decorated with the Légion d’honneur in 1864. Museums and collections all over the world hold his etchings including the V&A in London. As well as his own original work, Gaucherel made interpretative etchings after other artists, as can be seen in this present example.
