BiographyEugène was born in Paris on January 27, 1813. His father was the landscape artist Pierre Charles Cicéri (1782-1868) and Eugène received his earliest training with him. Pierre specialized in landscape painting and was chief set designer for the Paris Opera. As with many important artists of this period, Eugène was greatly influenced by the Barbizon artists and spent much of his time in Fontainebleau and Marlotte painting the picturesque countryside. In 1851 he exhibited his first work at the Paris Salon and in 1852 his Salon entry entitled: Vue Prise au bord di Loing earned him a Second Class medal.
Along with landscape painting, Cicéri was an accomplished watercolorist, lithographer, muralist and, like his father, stage set designer
