BiographyRamona Mitchell was born in Berlin, Germany, and educated at the University of Kassel in Kassel, Germany, where she studied art, art education, German language and literature. She received her Staatsexamen in 1962, the equivalent to the MFA degree. After studying art in Cairo, Egypt, she spent the 1957-58 year at the University of Georgia on a Rotary International Scholarship.
Mitchell has been a painter since 1963. She lectured in art at Lake Forest College in Lake Forest, Illinois, for many years beginning in 1974. She also lectured in the Department of Art at the Royal University College in Nairobi, Kenya (1963-1967) and at the Goethe Institute in Nairobi from 1963-1964.
Mitchell has participated in one-person and selected group exhibitions during her career. Her art works are in corporate, college and private collections.
The watercolor painting accessioned into the Fine Arts Collection by Mitchell is entitled, “Mountains in Kenya, East Africa.” The painting was executed while Mitchell lived in Kenya. She commented about the work that “A number of watercolor paintings were produced after trips to the highlands of Kenya…” The painting was shown in the Print, Watercolor, Drawing show which accompanied the Fine Arts Festival of December 7 through 16, 1967, and was purchased after that exhibit.
