BiographyOriginally from Chicago, IL, Richard S. Scherubel was born in 1941. In 1963, he graduated from Luther College with an Art major and English minor. He received his MA degree in Art with an Art History concentration and painting emphasis from the University of Iowa in 1966. From 1966-69, he was an art instructor at Eastern Kentucky University. He earned his Iowa Lifetime Teaching Certificate from the University of Iowa in 1975. He received a similar teaching certificate for Missouri from Missouri Western State College.
Scherubel taught at a variety of institutions including Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids, IA (1970-72); Coe College in Cedar Rapids, IA (1970-74); Oak Lawn Community High School in Oak Lawn, IL (1975-82); Moraine Valley Community College in Palos Hills, IL (1982-83); the School District of St. Joseph (1983-87); and Missouri Western State College in St. Joseph, MO (1984-2003). Now retired, he continues to paint and exhibit his works and volunteers at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City.
Scherubel has exhibited in numerous one-man shows and various group exhibitions, primarily throughout the Midwest. He served as a guest critic for several publications and offered private art lessons.
