Larry Thoreson

Larry Adolph (Thor) Thoreson was born in 1951. A 1973 graduate of Luther College, Thoreson spent the summers of 1971 and 1972 at the Pond Farm workshops founded by Marguerite Wildenhain. It was after these experiences that he decided to become a potter. After graduation, Thoreson moved to Crystal Lake, IL, where he started his first pottery business, Ridgefield Stoneware Pottery in Ridgefield, IL. In 1989, Thoreson and his wife, Judy, purchased a historic building built in the 1890s in Ellison Bay, WI, which is the current home, studio and gallery for Gills Rock Stoneware. The business employs 8-10 artisans who assist them in the production of handmade pottery.
