Judith Whipple

Biography
Judith Whipple was born in 1942 in Des Moines, Iowa. She studied art at Drake University (Des Moines) and the Minneapolis Institute of Art. She began painting professionally in 1977, but by the mid 1990s she turned her energies to the creation of papier mâché birds and assemblages incorporating cast-off materials and other found objects. Her work has been widely exhibited at galleries, festivals and art fairs in Iowa and neighboring states. She has received awards from the Plaza Fine Art Show, Kansas City, Missouri and the Old Orchard Art Fair, Skokie, Illinois; along with multiple awards from the Iowa State Fair. Her work can be found in numerous private and corporate collections, including Amoco of Indiana; the Principal Group in Des Moines; Continental Western Insurance Company of Des Moines; Norwest Bank in Des Moines; and, the Sioux City (Iowa) Museum of Art. Her solo exhibits include Percival Galleries, Des Moines; Buena Vista College, Storm Lake, Iowa; Central Iowa Art Association, Marshalltown; Grandview College, Des Moines; and the Iowa Gallery at the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art. There are two works by Whipple in the Luther College Fine Arts Collection. Lemon Still Life and Still Life with Apples are both small acrylic paintings done ca. 1983. There were given to Luther College by William Heintz in 1997.
