Jon Shumway

Biography
Jon Ross Shumway graduated from Luther College in 1987 with a B.A. in art. In 1995, he completed his M.A. in intermedia and video art from the University of Iowa, Iowa City, and, in 1998, he earned his M.F.A. in the same discipline, also from the University of Iowa. Since that time, he has served as an associate professor of art at Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania where he has developed and taught a variety of courses in digital and electronic media, drawing and design. He has also taught art in public schools and worked as a producer/director and illustrator for projects at the University of Iowa. Shumway is a member of several professional organizations including the following: the College Art Association; New Media Caucus; Pittsburgh Filmmakers; and the Visual Studies Workshop in Rochester, New York. In 2005, and again in 2006, Shumway served in directorships/curatorships at the International Juried Film and Video Festival in Slipper Rock and New Castle, PA. His exhibition record is extensive and includes several dozen group, juried and one-person shows. His work has been shown at IDEAS08, an international juried exhibition in digital media sponsored by the Savannah College of Art and Design, Savannah, GA; Media/Tonic 3, a national juried exhibition at the Pittsburgh Filmmakers Media Arts Center, PA; Snap to Grid, an international invitational exhibition at the Los Angeles Center for Digital Art, CA; Ritual and Repetition: an Exhibition of Video Art, an international juried exhibition at Richmond Center Art Gallery, Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo, MI; Festival Der Nationen, an international juried video festival at Ebensee, Austria; the New York International Independent Film and Video Festival (juried) at Madison Square Garden in New York City; and the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh, PA.
