Biography
While at Luther College, Maakestad attended the South Bear School and studied under former Luther faculty member, John Whelan (1975- 98). Since graduation, Maakestad has been an instructor in art, teaching in the Twin Cities, at the Hong Kong International School in China, as well as leading several educational trips abroad to Nepal, Indonesia, Borneo, Japan, and Italy. Maakestad has been nominated for Minnesota Teacher of the year on several occasions and has served as a founding board member of St. Croix Preparatory Academy, where she has been a teacher, mentor, administrator, and board member. She currently teaches upper level art at the St. Croix Prep Academy.
