Aaron Lurth

Aaron graduated from Luther College with a B.A. in Art, and from the University of Iowa with an M.F.A. in Photography and Graphic Design. He currently serve as director of the department of Visual Media at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, where I also teaches Graphic Design and Photographer in Art Program. He has also worked as a digital photo lab technician and as the operations manager for Photography Department at the University of Iowa; where he was a Virgil M. Beall Graduate Fellow in Photography. While in undergrad at Luther, he studied on the island of Malta where he worked on a photo documentary, later used by the Red Cross, investigating refugee camps. It was this experience that solidified not only my love for travel, but my interest in travel/documentary photography. For nine years, he was a photographer for the EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association) at AirVenture – the world’s largest air show. He has shot marketing campaigns for Luther College and was the photographer for the Cedar Rapids Kernals, the minor league affiliate of the Minnesota Twins. He has also spoken as part of a panel discussion at the Society for Photographic Education conference, and presented work as part of group and solo exhibitions at a number of galleries, including Drewlowe Gallery at the University of Iowa, Spiva Center for the Arts in Joplin, Missouri, Yeiser Art Center in Paducah, Kentucky, and Mpls Photo Center in Minneapolis. His work has been used by National Geographic, ABC, NBC, CBS, MTV.com, Time, The Des Moines Register, General Electric, CNET.com, The Iowa Review, Photography Served, The Lutheran Magazine, and many more
