About
The Alexander Platt Collection of Prints and Drawings contains numerous works by the French Barbizon School. Images of idealized peasants, romantic landscapes, and the livestock of rustic France are all provided. The theme of the Barbizon deals directly with these three categories. The artists desired to provide a look back on a less industrial world. With the growing dependance on technology the Barbizon school wanted to depict the France that was important to them; romantic and picturesque. The collection was used to instruct a 19th century art history course, allowing for a student curated show that correlated with the Gerhardt Marcks lecture for the Spring 2013 semester.
